Fortesta Testosterone Gel Lawsuit Filed Over Heart Attack Side Effects

Yet another product liability lawsuit has been filed against the maker of a potentially dangerous testosterone therapy gel.

A Georgia man has filed a complaint against the maker of Fortesta, claiming that side effects of the testosterone gel caused him to suffer a heart attack. The product liability lawsuit was filed earlier this month by Demetric Taylor in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas against Prostrakan, the drug company responsible for manufacturing and distributing Fortesta testosterone therapy. In his lawsuit, Taylor alleges that Prostrakan failed to warn consumers about the increased risk of heart attacks and other cardiovascular side effects associated with the use of testosterone replacement therapy (TRT). If you believe you have been harmed by Fortesta or another potentially dangerous testosterone product, contact a reputable attorney today to discuss your legal options.

Testosterone Products Marketed to Healthy Men

Testosterone replacement therapy drugs like Fortesta are designed to treat testosterone deficiency associated with a medical condition like hypogonadism, but critics claim that drug makers have improperly marketed the medications to men struggling with symptoms of the natural aging process, such as fatigue or lack of energy, which are often associated with low testosterone levels. Taylor’s case is one of a growing number of low T treatment lawsuits filed in recent months, which allege that the makers of popular testosterone medications like Fortesta, Testim and AndroGel have heavily promoted the treatments for low testosterone levels, while concealing important information about the potential side effects of these treatments.

Studies Highlighting TRT Health Risks

Testosterone LawsuitIn November 2013, a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association indicated that side effects of TRT may increase the risk of stroke, heart attack and death among older men with pre-existing heart conditions. In January 2014, another study found that testosterone therapy may double the risk of heart attack in younger men with heart disease and older men with no pre-existing heart conditions. In light of these findings, the FDA launched a safety review of all low T treatments earlier this year, which led to testosterone therapy claims being filed throughout the country.

While most of the current lawsuits involve the use of AndroGel testosterone gel, which makes up 60% of the market, other complaints have been brought in recent years against the makers of other low T products, including other gels, patches, creams and injections.
