Baycol – (up to 2003) $477 million

Bayer AG, maker of the cholesterol drug Baycol, paid $477 million to resolve 1,342 lawsuits filed against the German drug company up to 2003. Baycol was linked to as many as 100 deaths, and was withdrawn from the market in August 2001 after being connected to serious side effects. Baycol has already cost Bayer $1.17 billion in settlements.
