In 2004, tire company Bridgestone/Firestone Inc. agreed to pay $149 million to tire owners regarding the tires’ tread-separation problems and associated safety concerns. The 2004 settlement resolved 30 lawsuits filed against the tire company, and came more than three years after Bridgeston/Firestone recalled 14.4 million tires in 2000.
