American Home Products Corporation, now known as Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, agreed to pay $200 million in 1997 to resolve a class action lawsuit filed on behalf of more than 400 individuals in Kentucky who used the company’s diet drug, Fen-Phen. Fen-Phen was removed from the market in 1997 after the FDA reported the medication was linked to life-threatening side effects like pulmonary hypertension and heart valve problems.
