C.R. Bard, manufacturer of Kugel Mesh, agreed to pay $184 million to settle the majority of personal injury claims involving the company’s Composix Kugel Mesh Hernia Patch, manufactured by its Davol Inc. subsidiary. Davol issued a Class I recall of the Kugel Mesh X-Large Patch in 2005, when the FDA found that patch failures could cause severe injuries. By 2007, the recall had been expanded to include several other Kugel Mesh devices.
