Johnson & Johnson agreed to pay $90 million in 2004 to resolve claims by patients who alleged that the company’s heartburn drug, Propulsid, caused serious heart problems. The settlement resolved lawsuits filed by about 4,000 patients, including 300 who allegedly died from taking Propulsid, which was found by the FDA to potentially cause irregular heartbeats and sudden death.
