In 2011, Seroquel maker AstraZeneca agreed to pay $150 million to settle about 6,000 cases alleging that the drug company knew its antipsychotic drug Seroquel could cause diabetes but failed to adequately warn patients about the risk. In addition to the $198 million AstraZeneca paid to settle 17,500 personal injury claims last year, the recent $150 settlement brings AstraZeneca’s total for Seroquel claims to nearly $350 million. The drug firm has also agreed to pay $520 million to settle federal allegations that it promoted Seroquel for off-label use..
