Zyprexa maker Eli Lilly & Co. agreed to pay $690 million in 2005 to resolve about 8,000 lawsuits over its antipsychotic drug and possible diabetes side effects. Most of the Zyprexa lawsuits alleged that Eli Lilly failed to adequately display on the Zyprexa label the risk of hyperglycemia and diabetes, which ultimately resulted in the FDA requiring a label change for all atypical antipsychotics in 2003.
